10/31/2012 - Karen - I had the pleasure as part of our new Community Service Core Value to take a half day and spend time reading to my daughter Victoria's class. She is a 1st Grader at Chester Park Elementary School of the Arts. Up to this point I had never taken the time to do this and it was not only special for her but me also. I read the book "Junie B Jones and Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" by Barbara Park. For anyone not aware of the Junie B Jones Series it is about a young girl Victoria's age that gets in a bunch of trouble. I read these books all the time to my children and because this is about a halloween carnival at school I choose this one. It was alot of fun reading to the class, they laughed and honestly so did I. It is those special moments that us working parents dont realize that we miss and it was nice to be able to not miss something and enrich those precious minds. Kids at this age are so impressionable. I am not sure if anyone is aware but Chester County is a poor town and often the children suffer. With the un-employment rate in Chester you would think that a ton of parents would be at the school supporting the kids all the time, but that is not the case and there is only a handful of parents that actually do anything with the schools. I am happy to say that my name is now counted. Thank you for the opportunity.

Karen, great story. Thanks for taking the initiative and leading off for our community service initiative!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Karen. Exactly what community service through time, talent and treasure is all about. Thanks to JR as well as we are now going to sponsor a needy family for the holidays in our community. This is being done through the school Rose works at.
