Some Days it is not meant to be

Well good days and bad are had by all.  I guess I had both in the same 24 hours.  Beth and I enjoyed our trip to Richmond.  We were able to have dinner with some of her college friends Friday night before the marathon.  It was a great time.  The race was really two races in one for me.  The first 15 miles were awesome.  I was running at a pace that would have qualified me for the Boston Marathon.  Unfortunately I tweaked my calf/hamstring and the problems mounted from there.  I slowed down and started compensating for the pain in my calf and putting pressure on other muscles in my legs.  The downward spiral hit an all time low for me when I literally went to the ground in pain a few times.  One of which was only 1 mile from the finish.  I literally gutted it out and managed to finish in a respectable time of 3:50(NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MY PERSONAL BEST).

The great news is Beth ran her fastest marathon to date and came in at 4:27.  She was beaming at the end and I was so proud of her.  Now to recover and somehow get ready for the Disney races in January a short 9 weeks away.

  1. Paul, it's a win that you work hard and train and you completed a marathon when you weren't at your best. As our leader you exemplify all of our core values, and in particular in this case a commitment to EXCELLENCE in yourself and the rest of us. I'm proud to work for Carolina Energy.
